Exploring Pilgrimage as Spiritual Practice

Join Bethany Givens Blankespoor, a key mind behind InterVarsity Study Abroad’s Journey pilgrimages in Ireland, Italy, France, and Spain, for a conversation about what pilgrimage is and how pilgrimage practices can be integrated into the rhythms of your spiritual life. We’ll also hear stories from others who have been shaped by the spirituality of pilgrimage.

We apologize for the tech issues at the start of the recording. The lag and mute issues were resolved a few minutes in.

The Spirituality of Wine & Wines of the Camino

Wine can teach us so much about God and living out our faith. Join the author of The Spirituality of Wine and The Soul of Wine to learn about wine throughout the Bible, church history, and its connection to some of our Camino themes. We’ll present two northwestern Spanish wines and learn to “listen” to them with a twist on the typical wine tasting. For participants 21 or older, if you want to join in the tasting portion, pick up a Tempranillo and/or an Albarino.

I'll Push You Film Discussion

Join fellow peregrinos to discuss the award-winning documentary film I’ll Push You, which tells the story of two best friends and one wheelchair on a 500-mile journey along the Camino de Santiago. Our conversation will be facilitated by Rob Johnston and Catherine Barsotti, Fuller Seminary professors and co-authors of the book Finding God in the Movies. You can watch the film on your own anytime for $5 via https://www.illpushyou.com/

Camino Regional Cooking Class

Let’s get as close as we can to those post-walk aromas of the albergue table by learning some typical Spanish recipes including paella, a few tapas, and a dessert. Professional chef Michelle Dubis and her best friend of 20 years Sarah Schilling (Associate Director for InterVarsity Study Abroad) will lead this delicious cooking class. If you want to cook along during the hourlong class, you’ll want to have everything chopped ahead of time. Recipes include: paella, chorizo & tomato salad, stuffed red peppers, and Tinto de Verano sorbet.
